Watch the world-famous Oia sunset; explore Fira caldera cliff walk; visit the ancient ruins of Akrotiri (the Minoan Pompeii); take a catamaran tour around the caldera; wine tasting at a local vineyard (Assyrtiko grapes)
Tender from ship to Fira Old Port; cable car or steps up to town
Tender port with sometimes very long waits; Oia gets extremely crowded at sunset - arrive 2 hours early; the steps up the caldera are steep and not suitable for those with mobility issues; donkey rides are controversial - cable car or stairs recommended; book restaurants with caldera views well in advance
Fira to Oia is a beautiful 10km hike along the caldera rim - one of the best walks in Greece. Avoid visiting in July and August if possible - overwhelming crowds. Try local Assyrtiko wine - grown in volcanic soil and uniquely crisp.
Fresh seafood; fava bean dip; tomatokeftedes (tomato fritters); grilled octopus; local Assyrtiko white wine; Santorini cherry tomatoes; loukoumades
Oia for handmade jewelry and art; local wineries; volcanic pumice skincare; Fira for souvenirs and ceramics
